An evening of performances, talks, demonstrations, installations and mingling with some of London’s top sound artists, builders, hackers and educators. This time we’ve got acoustic circuit bending, Memory Boxes to help people with dementia, levitation and manipulation of objects with sound, didgeridoos made out of toilet rolls and a completely new experimental system for mixing audio. You’ll also have the chance to make your very own instrument for yourself! This is the third in the series, and the last two have been absolutely fantastic. Chloe is a designer, maker, inventor and social entrepreneur based in Bristol and London. She founded Studio Meineck in 2016 and their work sits between the worlds of technology, craft, design and art, and focuses on inclusive design processes in order to develop products with a social purpose. Chloe will be presenting her project the Music Memory Box which uses sound and technology to help people living with dementia and their loved ones to reminiscence more effectively. This can help them to improve their emotional well-being and communication skills. A wonderful use of technology to enhance people’s lives.
Daniel Wilson is a broadcaster, researcher and instrument builder who works with salvaged materials to construct electromagnetically-actuated drone-based devices that embody a post-electronic approach to soundmaking. He is a member of Oscillatorial Binnage, and records solo as Ashfordaisyak, Meadow House, Post-Electronics and – most recently – Radionics Radio (a project released on Sub Rosa in 2017 as part of his Sound and Music Embedded residency at Resonance 104.4FM).
Tom Fox, aka Vulpestruments, our Creative Director, has been working with Kevin Chan from sound art collective Gwaith Swn on the Proximity Mixer installation, an experimental interactive music mixing machine.
Diego Baresch:
Diego is a post-doctoral researcher in Acoustics at Imperial College, London. He’ll be talking about his fascinating research, including levitating and moving objects with sound waves, potentially with a view to finding new treatments for cancer.
Rodrigo is a Portuguese Community Artist and Educator who uses Music and Making to work with the people of all ages. He’ll be talking about his workshops on didgeridoo making using upcycled and reycled materials. You’ll even have the chance to have a go on one of his creations!
