New Technologies III
Body-centric wearable computing systems : Crafting Interactive Audio
Talk by Dr. Rebecca Stewart

Tuesday 27 November 7.30pm | Free

Description:
We often think of musical instruments as rigid objects made of wood, metal, or even plastic and electronics. However with advances in electronic textiles (e-textiles), a greater variety of objects and wearable interfaces can be created to control audio. This talk will look at what flexible materials like textiles together with crafting techniques bring to musical and other audio-based interactions.

Dr. Rebecca Stewart

She is a Lecturer in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London. I work with e-textiles and signal processing to build interactive, body-centric wearable computing systems. These systems often incorporate performance, fashion, music and/or design.
Stewart is on the Management Team for the Media and Arts Technology Centre for Doctoral Training funded by the EPSRC and AHRC and am also a member of the Centre for Digital Music and the Centre for Intelligent Sensing.
