The return of Sunroof (Daniel Miller & Gareth Jones) to IKLECTIK for an evening of further exploration into modular, analogue and digital processes.

Expect modular improvised dronescapes and manipulated video sequences triggered by software connected to the live audio from Sunroof, who are celebrating a new album release, Electronic Music Improvisations Volume 2 (Mute).

Nik Colk Void & Alexander Tucker will be melding their electronics into a maelstrom of burnt circuitry, deep kicks and insect clicks for this rare live set as Brood X Cycles, following the release of their debut collaboration, Sleep Nameless Fear (the State51 Conspiracy).

Finlay Shakespeare will be bringing his work from the fringes of electronic pop to London from Bristol, ahead of the release of a new album Illusion + Memory (Alter).

Daniel Miller (founder of Mute, the “accidental label” that began with the release of his own 7” single The Normal’s T.V.O.D / Warm Leatherette) met Gareth Jones, (the innovative and influential producer, engineer and artist) back when Miller asked Jones to work with him in late 1982 on what became Depeche Mode’s Construction Time Again. After Depeche Mode had gone home for the day, they would stay on to work on their own sessions, a practise that continues to this day. By the mid-nineties Sunroof had emerged as remix project going on to rework the likes of Can, MGMT, To Rococo Rot, Kreidler and Goldfrapp.

Brood X Cycles (Nik Colk Void & Alexander Tucker)

Nik Colk Void and Alexander Tucker convened at Void’s Demna Studio to record two days of modular improvisations, resulting in Sleep Nameless Fear. Using their individualised modular cases they connected the two configurations to create one whole system where they could integrate and meld sequences, beats, drones and samples. Key to the duo’s process was bringing the organic textures of guitar, cello and voice together with machine rhythms, creating a balance between circuitry and the human body.

Finlay Shakespeare

Finlay Shakespeare is an electronic musician working from the UK and across Europe. A childhood obsession with his parents’ record collection led him to both create his own music and build his own synthesizer equipment throughout his teenage years. After studying audio engineering, he was invited to become in-house engineer for the Moog Sound Lab UK. A series of monthly “Housediet” releases – all improvised and captured at home utilising drum machines, modular synthesis and processed vocals – was compiled and released by Editions Mego, followed by “Solemnities’ on the label. Further releases on Superpang, Modulisme and his own GOTO Records imprint followed, and a forthcoming album for Alter, “Illusion + Memory” is out later this year.
