Join us for an evening of experimental composition and kaleidoscopic language. With visions of varied landscapes encircling sound and speech, this launch party combines diverse perspectives to create one momentary lapse, one trespass into that imagined land.

To celebrate the release of BAG X Collapsing Drums’ album ‘Momentary Lapses’, they will be joined by very special guests Tears|OV (live), something’s happening, Graham Dunning, Sensory Leakage (DJ) and Sam Terentjev-Watts (DJ). This event will coincide with the UK cassette release and run until 1am.

BAG X Collapsing Drums is a collaboration between experimental producer Collapsing Drums (Charlie Behrens) and spoken word/electronic duo BAG (Jody DeSchutter and Dan Allison). Modular synth, spoken word, field recording, experimental play and abstract guitar are a few of the practices visited by the project. DeSchutter’s dada-esque verse moves purposely forward, fragmented through synaesthetic habitats. Her words, woven into the electronic compositions of Behrens and Allison, touch on themes of re-interpretation, incongruity, and longing. Momentary Lapses celebrates all that is unknown, pluralistic, and paradoxical as proposed antidotes to a binary mode of knowing. Sonically bridging the gaps between post- punk, IDM and experimental.

Tears|OV

Tears | OV are a three piece experimental trio working across experimental composition and media archaeology. Their work explores the intersection between mass media and interpersonal personal belief systems to playfully expose the tyranny of cultural norms. Tears | OV are Deborah Wale, Katie Spafford and Lori E Allen. They are an electro-acoustic trio producing soundscape and sample and sequenced based works in long form. Their are published on The Tapeworm, Bloxham Tapes and Industrial Coast. Together and in other collaborative practices they have performed at Tate South Tanks, Iklectik, Whitechapel and Chisenhale Galleries.

[something’s happening]

[something’s happening] is the sound and text duo of poet and performer Iris Colomb and composer Daryl Worthington (Beachers). The project explores textual and sonic permutation through improvisation. Fragments of found text and gestural electro-acoustics weave through spectral guitar textures. Loops of sound and language collide. Their first release, an album of single-take live improvisations recorded with a single mic in a practice room, ‘Something Like That’, was released in May 2022 by Sensory Leakage. Their next release is a recording of a live performance at Cafe Oto from October 2022.

Graham Dunning

Graham Dunning’s work explores sound as texture, timbre and something tactile, drawing on bedroom production, tinkering and recycling found objects. This “modified DJ set” will include modified records, locked grooves and drum machine to make something wonky and ramshackle but also danceable.
