ECHOSHED: Liminal Rites

Thursday February 1st 8:00pm | £5 otd

Step out of the cold and into a liminal space, where performance art, ancient poetry and semi-improvised musical collaborations collide to cultivate a performance in its most intuitive, ritualistic sense. Liminal Rites aims to step backwards in time to appreciate music in a de-formalised setting, where a spiritual and supernatural appreciation of ritualised music signals a moment of change, a transformation from one state to another. Here, with pulsing drones, hypnotic rhythms and entrancing soundscapes we bid farewell to the cold of winter and welcome the warmth of spring, abandon the dark to embrace the light. Experience music as a contributor to this change and experience the power music can have over a collective of performers and audience alike.

With musical offerings from:

Toru Takemitsu
Salvatore Sciarrino
Richard Bullen
Anna Clyne
Michio Mamiya
Dan McBride
Christopher Schlechte-Bond
David Denyer

Flute – Aleksandra Henszel
Clarinet – Emma Burgess
Saxophone – David Zucchi

Echoshed is a collective of like-minded musicians, dedicated to the performance of contemporary music. We seek to discover and champion new musical styles, to experiment, to challenge existing models of concert performance and to connect our output with other art forms.  Our aim is to re-contextualise contemporary music within a setting that is relevant, exciting and meaningful to a 21st-century audience.
