First Terrace Records invites you for a night of experimentation, and transportation from the wonderful NikNak who releases her new EP ‘Night’ on First Terrace Records. Joining the lineup we have very special guests with Nexcyia and Xana. Not one to be missed.
NikNak
NikNak is a self-described music creative with many roles/spins many plates within the music industry As a DJ, NikNak has shared the stage with the likes of Mr Scruff, Lefto Early Bird, Ila Brugal, Jamz Supanova, Craig Charles, Om Unit, Jon1st, Grandmaster Flash and many more, been recognised as one of DJMag’s “Ones to Watch”, and has performed at Glastonbury, Outlook UK, Dimensions, Moovin Festival, Cuidad Emergente in Argentina, FiftyLab Festival in Brussels, Camp Bestival and many more… Described as a “musical polymath” by Crash Magazine and a member of Eve’sDropCollective, each NikNak set is expansive, unique, ambitious, genre-defying, and serves as a testament to her sponge-like musical knowledge. On radio, she shows her knowledge with shows like “Melanin” on Worldwide FM and “Dystopia” on Refuge Worldwide, as well as doing guest shows/mixes on BBC Radio Leeds, SubtleFM, Rinse FM, Narr Radio, Jazz FM, Crate Digs and many more. As an artist/producer, NikNak is the first Black Turntablist to win an Oram Award in 2020 and regularly pushes boundaries on what the turntables are capable of. Taking inspiration from various genres and artists, NikNak let’s her ideas flow freely whether beat based or on the more experimental side of things. From embarking on her debut tour in Summer 2022 using an 8 speaker surround-sound array for her 3rd album “Sankofa” , to remixing works by Phillip Glass, and with various releases on labels like Kynant Records, Inventing Waves, Reel Long Overdub, OTONO and more, NikNak continues to prove that no box(es) can cage her wide-reaching ideas and influences.

Nexcyia
Officially known as Adam Dove, Nexcyia is an African-American/French sound artist and experimental ambient musician based between London and Paris. Working with found sound, Nexcyia weaves together harsh sound design and swooping soundscapes into works that bridge many moods, emotions and places through noise, granular synthesis, textures and rhythms. Dove is a fine artist and researcher holding an MA in Contemporary Art Practice from the Royal College of Art and a BA in Sound Arts from the University of the Arts London. His fine art practice focuses on the notions of alienation and otherness in the African-American experience and explores this through sculpture, installation, painting, sound, and moving image. Nexcyia has released Origin EP on Takuroku, Crawl EP on Alien Jams and has performed in various venues/festivals such as the Barbican Centre, Cafe OTO, Primavera Sound (Barcelona), IKLECTIK and more.

Xana
Xana is a freestyle live loop musician, sound artist, vibrational sound designer, archival audio producer/researcher, scratch DJ, installation artist, poet and theatremaker. Xana deconstructs words and found sound in live performances to make improvisational soundscapes, effects and protest songs. Xana composes and develops scores for short films through Xana’s genres: Orchestral Noise, Ancestors Revenge and Thicc Bass using modular synthesis and field recordings as the basis for experimenting and building new music. Xana is a music science and technology lead at music research label Inventing Waves, where dey develop accessible sound systems for live art spaces, researches architectural and underwater sound worlds within the changing climate and is a sound arts and tech facilitator working with local communities and organisations.
