We are thrilled to present our new SOUND & BOOKSHOP

Wednesday 7 September 2022 | From 6:30pm

FREE EVENT https://link.dice.fm/R466a56073f9

To celebrate our new space, we host a party from 6:30pm in our garden with a reading and listening session, DJs and drinks being served at our Kiosk (@iklectik_kiosk).

DJ sets by Howlround and xname.

Our special guest Ken Hollings will join us on this special occasion, drawing together passages from his two most recent books, he takes his audience on a whirlwind tour of riot-torn Paris and Los Angeles in the late sixties. Trash cinema meets student politics head-on at the barricades, while teenagers clash with local police on Sunset Strip! Be there or be square!

The shop, located at our space here in Waterloo, will stock a range of books, records and cassettes with an emphasis on the experimental music, contemporary culture and new technology. We will be open during our events.

You can have a taste of out our catalogue at the following link: https://iklectik.myshopify.com/collections/all

We look forward to seeing you there!

Ken Hollings

Ken Hollings is a writer, broadcaster and lecturer whose work has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. He has written and presented critically acclaimed features for the BBC and Resonance FM. His books include Welcome to MarsThe Bright LabyrinthThe Space OracleInferno and Purgatory, all available from Strange Attractor Press.

Marking 10 years since first coming to prominence with hugely-acclaimed 2012 LP The Ghosts Of Bush, Howlround is a quintet (four slightly battered machines machines, one slightly battered operator) that creates recordings and performances entirely from manipulating natural acoustic sounds on vintage reel-to-reel tape machines, with all electronic effects or artificial reverb strictly forbidden. In an age where one can create all manner of electronic music with a simple swipe of a mouse, Howlround prove not only how much fun is to be had in making things complicated again, but conversely just how little effort is sometimes needed to create a genuinely uncanny and beguiling soundworld: the rough underbelly of our pristine, Pro-Tools universe.

xname is an Italian new media artist based in London. She was born in Milan and she has been living many years in Bologna and Amsterdam. Her interests include metaphysics, electronics, software, performance and interactivity. She works with self made instruments and open source software for live performance and interactive installation, expanding from visual and software art to electronic music. Her work, ultimately cryptic, ritualistic and noise, engages in the construction of perceptual phenomena and environments that explore the concepts of illusion and the virtual, stimulating new forms of perception and questioning the notion of materiality and presence, and the role that memory, experience and eventually our ancestors have in the formation of identity. “My work, mixing different practices, talks about social and individual identities, and their interfacing with reality and imagination. [this story is to be continued…]”.
