This workshop will look at different ways on how Jo Thomas composes and produces and performs her own music. Jo Thomas works with technological, biological and abstract forms within her music, exploring space, detail, landscape and glitch.
She works primarily with electronic sound and a wide selection of sources such as field recordings, recordings from her voice and bespoke instruments.
You are welcome to bring your own Bespoke or Electronic instruments or scores. We can learn, share and explore different ways to work with them.
At a point in the workshop, we will go on a sound walk and come back to the venue to listen to the material we will have gathered together.
For this workshop, weather permitting we will be holding it outside and for different points in the workshop, we will go inside with some live sound. Please wear warm clothing and comfortable shoes.
Jo is a professional practitioner with lived experience of disability. She works with the use of one hand and over the years has developed ways of working that are designed around her body form.
She believes that music communicates a universal language and is made from many voices who have different languages.
