An evening of experimental synthesised sonics diffused by an ambisonic array of DIY speaker system build by John Chantler, algorithmic compositions by Heinrich Schwarzer and genre-fluid semi-improvised performance by Deniz Erdem.
John Chantler is a musician and organiser living in Stockholm, Sweden. He mostly works with synthesizers and electronics to create unpredictable, highly dynamic music where passages of spare, alien beauty bridge held chords, saturated in harmonic distortion. In 2019 he started building a system for performance consisting of multiple battery powered synthesizer/speaker things that can be variably suspended, swung, spun and set in locations without depending on the typical concert/club infrastructure and classical modes of performer/audience interaction.
For the past 4 years or so I’ve been making music using Max/Msp to sequence and modulate Ableton Live. In November 2020 I’ve released «Zähler, Figur, Puls 0-2» on Calum Gunn’s Conditional Records, which was described as “some of the most thrilling music around” by boomkat and “precise yet playful, sharp yet warm” by Gunn (flattering stuff basically). I’ve also initiated the now Manchester based music-label, event-series & radioshow Mutualism with Iceboy Violet in 2015, which has later seen artists Bftt, Clemency and Rob Thornber join.
Deniz Erdem is just another human being with an urge to develop a higher understanding of his existence. Sounds have been his favorite companion/model along this journey. His ambition doesn’t allow him to relate to a certain genre or approach. He simply tries to learn and understand more about music making.
