Long term collaborators, Maja S.K. Ratkje (NO) and Kathy Hinde (UK), perform a unique concert at Iklectik. Their collaboration combines Ratkje’s unique, compelling vocals and electronics, with Hinde’s imaginative approach to sculptural sound objects and adapted instruments. In the intimate setting of Iklectik, Ratkje and Hinde will create a spatialised, immersive sonic environment, placing sounds next to your ears, behind you, above you and from unexpected locations. Physical objects sound side by side with low tech and high tech equipment, Ratkje’s voice always present, from the tiniest sounds to multilayered catharsis.

The pair have previously collaborated in different configurations. From an interdisciplinary adaptation of Chekov’s Three Sisters touring Scandinavia; to improvising with bird imitation machines at Other Minds festival in San Francisco and creating spectacular bird related works at Snape Maltings; to gaining a Scottish Award for New Music for their co-creation Aeolian, with Accordion soloist Andreas Borregaard and Red Note Ensemble. “Never have I seen and heard such a kaleidoscopic panoply of bizarre and exotic musical instruments used in a way that cancels out completely the idea of novelty … the most beautiful, exquisitely-designed and executed ballet of action and sound, like a tender exquisite lullaby” – Simon Cummings’ 5against4 review of Aeolian.
