Saturday 21st & Sunday 29th May 2022

A 2-day event exploring transience and outsiderness against the backdrop of our contemporary digital landscape.

Otherness brings together A/V performances, a panel discussion and screenings that seek to collide and abstract multiple conceptual ideas and social debates around the topic of “Otherness” in a post-pandemic context.

One of the predominant themes occurring during the pandemic has been the splicing and interweaving of multiple places and times. Creating an almost phenomenological “cut-up”, spaces from the gaming industry, to fashion, to artistic practices have facilitated a portal between two marks in time. The excessive use of relational digital tools has created a new dystopian mental state that is radically changing how we understand the self and perceive the other. Examining locations that provide a ground for discourse around the ancient, other realities, technology, nature, one-and-other and time through sonic rituals and technology acting as portals to eerie landscapes now lost to humankind.

Otherness festival is to collide and abstract multiple conceptual and social debates around the remix/cut/mash-up culture, such as a distortion of reality through mass media, a blurring of fact and fiction, secret societies of the digital age, a lost sense of time and interlocated collaboration.
