IKLECTIK presents,

sound – space Launch

Friday 10 June 2022 | 7pm – 11:30pm

Tickets: £10 + booking fee https://buytickets.at/iklectik/710809

This event is the inaugural live presentation of the London based imprint “sound-space,” which for the last two years has endeavoured to release sounds challenging and transgressing the artificial boundaries between electronic rhythm and noise. The label’s remit is to make experimental music accessible and demonstrate its proximity to the dance floor.

Proceedings begin with the stark ambience of OLO. His compositions have an ‘internal’ feel – like ‘mindscapes’ – almost as if he’s inviting us to join him inside his head, in real time.

Next up, Jauzas The Shining, is an established denizen of electro who has released widely on a variety of labels. Renowned for the energy of his live shows, he stretches his chosen platform beyond convention, sometimes decelerating the tempo to darker, more menacing terrains.

He is followed by Dhangsha, whose sparse but heavy beats are punctuated by alien call and response motifs hijacked from techno. Through granular disruption and the application of extreme distortions, he compels the music towards entropy – a sense of imminent collapse.

Penultimate artist Simon Grab is deeply rooted in the practice of ‘no-input’ mixing, though one which emphasises low end frequencies. His profound bass pulsations are now framed, but not reigned in by programmed electronic syncopations.

Rounding off the night is Sound-space’s first ever artist Efe Ce Ele, hailing from Colombia. As a non-binary human, she equally refuses to confine her work to the strictures of any one genre or style, flowing seamlessly between the aesthetics of minimalism and brutalism through noise, hardcore, ambient, techno, electro and ebm. Constructing her own superb visuals, her live sets are disciplined, determined, precise and ultimately epic.

The idea why Fragment-A started was to contribute to make visible electronic experimental music from Latin America outside and inside their countries. And in other hand, to support the creative processes of artist that are a part of some kind of social minority, like immigrant people, racialized people, transgender and non-binay sex gender people. In that terms Fragment-A is not focused just in quality or prodiogiosity, is focused on activism, helping to the empowerment of latin American artists and empowerment of marginalised people by the oppression of social-systems that also affect music production like: Colonialism, Patriarchy, Heteronormativity, Racism, Sex-Gender-Phobia, Aporophobia, Capacitism, etc. That’s why Fragment-A is both a Label and a Collective.

Dhangsha

Aniruddha Das is an experimental electronic musician exploring the relationship between rhythm and noise. His emphasis is on minimalism, repetition and fragmentation in sound. His spartan but heavy beats are punctuated by the accents of African clave patterns, whilst his alien synth motifs indicate his love of the sound of Detroit. His real time manipulation of various distortions impels each soundtrack towards entropy – a sense of impending collapse – and is the main performative aspect of his live improvisations. Aniruddha was a founder member and the original bassist of Asian Dub Foundation. His current practice is a return to his roots in experimental sound, pre-dating any involvement with dub.

OLO

My name is Edward Griffiths and OLO is my sonic-works avatar (basically an emoticon representing my face). I also run the XOLO event series. XOLO exists to develop opportunities for sonic and visual artists at the forefront of creative exploration. As OLO I mainly use free audio software (Audacity, Sunvox & Tidal Cycles) to generate my sounds/sets and use Ableton to perform them. I find it difficult to explain my pieces in writing but it suffices to say that they are often the result of internal worlds leaking but are intended to work externally as explorations of non-linear narratives and dimensions.
