London based record label SA Recordings present ‘The Hearing Experience’. The series is a collection of single releases from experimental artists exploring their relationship with the act of listening.

Astrid Sonne

Presenting intuitively graceful and precisely cut compositions that experiment with baroque approaches and improvised passages, Astrid’s work has seen praise from the likes of Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, Crack, DJ Mag, BBC and more. Her recent album outside of your lifetime, saw seamless transitions between oscillating waves and organ work as well as fierce waveforms through heated pulses, demonstrating how each individual piece Astrid creates possesses their own distinct character.

Damsel Elysium

Damsel Elysium is an experimental sound and visual artist. Having previously been hailed as what Vogue describes as “London’s most stylish experimental sound artist” and having featured in the recent FKA Twigs Tiny Desk session, Damsel is an emerging avant garde artist not to be ignored. Damsel utilises double bass, violin and original field recordings to explore alternative communication and connections with physical spaces and nature. Their aim is to establish an expressive world that speech or writing could never transmute. As a neurodivergent artist, it’s vital for them to deliver a world that is accessible to all audiences and all senses. Combining experimental sound and sight, Elysium crafts worlds of their own, where they can be as fluid as their own feelings and skills are, creating a space for healing, never worrying if the world will understand them.

Lola de la Mata

Lola’s practice encompasses sound art, compositions, workshop leading and multi-dimensional curations. While her background is in weaving, printmaking and Labanotation, her work sits across performance art, installation and sculptural composition which she develops in collaboration with other musicians and dancers who are predominantly female, non-binary and queer. Her musical inspirations come from greats like Eliane Radigue, Holly Herndon and Maryanne Amacher. Lola’s previous works have received praise from the likes of BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 3 and NTS and she has received commissions from Riot Ensemble, Zubin Kanga, Nonclassical, Spitalfields Music Festival and many more.

Tara Clerkin Trio

The trio comprises of Tara Clerkin, Sunny-Joe Paradisos and Patrick Benjamin who’ve been playing together and apart in various guises and forms in Bristol for around a decade. Having solidified the workings of the group over the last year their debut self-titled has emerged alongside a strong live set. Drifting from dubby minimalism to smudged acid jazz, Tara’s stark and tuneful voice acts as the vehicle for her concise poetic lyricism. The group coalesce disparate influences into a cohesive sound, reflecting a romantic view of a familiar world. They will be performing their Hearing Experience piece, ‘Exquisite Corpse’.
