Through this interactive installation and performance, come on an experimental journey using instruments and technology developed by Tim Yates during his residency with the Amoenus ambisonic sound system.
Ambisonic and immersive audio allows us to play with the fundamentals of what a musical instrument is, the way we can experience sound and the relationship between audience and performers. Tim’s instruments explore the idea of being inside the instrument you’re playing – a room sized instrument you can walk around in, play and experience collectively. In combination with harpist Joris Beets and Tim Yates playing live, this is an experiment in re-imagining the ways we can experience music and performance.

Tim Yates is an award winning instrument developer, sound-artist, musician and technologist who makes, builds and finds instruments of all kinds for performance and installation. He has shown his work at, among other places, the Tate Modern, the V&A and London Design Week and internationally at Xi’an International Maker Faire and Siestes Électroniques. He is the Founder and Director of Hackoustic, a group dedicated to instrument building, acoustic hacking and sound-art.

Joris Beets
As experimental improv multi-instrumentalist and inventor, Joris is always looking to find that magical, timeless place where we reach a state of flow with others and rediscover the new and boundless. In this performance, among other things, he will play one of his main inventions- the Delta Harp.
