Alan Wilkinson

Active in Improvised Music since the late 70s Alan was a vital part of the Leeds scene of the 80s, founding the Termite Club and as part of the powerhouse trio Hession/Wilkinson/Fell. In 1987 Derek Bailey invited him to join a European Company tour and subsequently 2 of the London Company weeks. When he relocated to London in 1990 he was already a familiar name and has continued to play and promote the Music through his various club nights, the most recent being flimflam, going since 2001. Notable collaborators have included Peter Brötzmann, Chris Corsano, Akira Sakata, Thurston Moore, Charles Hayward, Eddie Prevost, Talibam! and Spiritualized. Long-standing groups include a trio with John Edwards and Steve Noble, and Norwegian Quartet Akode. Guest appearances with Dead Days Beyond Help morphed into a separate trio with Alex Ward and Jem Doulton with the release of their first CD on Shrike Records.

Alex Ward

Alex Ward’s diverse musical activities since the early ’90s have straddled the worlds of free improvisation, contemporary composition and avant rock, and have seen him collaborate with such significant musical figures as Derek Bailey, Duck Baker, Eugene Chadbourne, Lol Coxhill,, Thurston Moore, Steve Noble, Evan Parker and Pat Thomas, amongst a host of others. He was an integral part of Charles Bullen and Charles Hayward’s acclaimed This Is Not This Heat project, and in 2021 he became a member of the legendary band Pere Ubu. His work as a composer/bandleader has encompassed his own ensembles such as Predicate, Forebrace, the Alex Ward Quintet and Items 4 & 10, alongside collaborative projects such as his duos with Dominic Lash, Jem Doulton (as Dead Days Beyond Help) and Sean Noonan (as Noonward); while his solo releases have ranged from unaccompanied performances on clarinet and guitar to the layered studio creations found on 2021’s Gated.

Jem Doulton

Jem Doulton has played in a range of groups over the years and across a wide range of genres. Since 2014 he’s played the drums for The Thurston Moore Group both live and recordings and has in general floated between the jazz, free improv, psych rock, ‘math’, dance pop electronica worlds as well as writing his own songs.
