Cinema Soloriens is the multi-media performance platform, consisting of John Harrar’s experimental and highly personal film and video images with a live musical rendering of soundtracks for each film. The musical concepts are created, directed and performed by Harrar, Dutch drumming powerhouse, Rogier Smal, and a stellar changing line-up of gifted musicians.

James Harrar is known for his 22+ years in collaboration with Marshall Allen of the Sun Ra Arkestra in Harrar’s Cinema Soloriens, a constantly evolving creative and spiritual learning center. Over the years, Cinema Soloriens has involved many talented musicians to the core of Harrar and Marshall Allen: Eric Thielemans, Giovanni Barcella, Chris Cutler & Geoff Leigh (Henry Cow, Artaud Beats), Daevid Allen (Gong, Soft Machine), Graham Massey (808 State), Art Jenkins & Yahya Abdul-Majid (Sun Ra Arkestra), Michael Gibbons (Bardo Pond), to name a few.

Supporting act for the evening is KEN IKEDA + GRUNDIK KASYANSKY

Ken is a video artist, improvising musician, and composer, born in Tokyo . He has worked with John Russell, Paul G. Smyth, Toshimaru Nakamura,and many other improvising musicians; and has exhibited sound art and visual installations around the world. He has collaborated with, amongst others, painter Tadanoori Yokoo, artist Mariko Mori, Hiroshi Sugimoto; and composed and recorded for film maker David Lynch. He featured as part of Sonic Boom, at the Hayward Gallery, London in 2000 and as part of the Royal Academy’s ‘Apocalypse’ exhibition in 2001.

Grundik Kasyansky is a London-based musician who works in experimental improvisation, live installation, audio collage, and designs sound for dance, theatre and film. He wrote poetry before switching to electronic music and it deeply influenced his current practice. He is a founding member of the pioneering Israeli experimental electronic duo Grundik and Slava. His recent releases include “Workshop Concert” on Matchless Records (sextet with Eddie Prevost, Jenny Allum, Ute Kanngiesser, Dimitra Lazaridou-Chatzigoga and Daichi Yoshikawa), and “The Fog” on Dromos Records (duo with pianist Sebastian Lexer).
