The Happy Couple

The Happy Couple – Judith Goodman and David Ross – live adjacent to two nature reserves within a meander of the river Yare in the Norfolk Broads. They spend their time imbibing the sights, sounds and atmospheres of these environs, playing together out on the misty marshes and secluded backwaters. This peaceful and profound music is a reflection of their intimate relationship to the area and each other. They describe the clear still starry night skies reflected in the watery landscape, the murmurations of birds and the ever changing qualities of light across the wetlands, but also the micro-worlds of insects, plants, fungi and lichen. Judith performs on a number of unusual string instruments, lap steel, tenor guitar, cittern and the very rare Stoessel Laute, a unique lute/zither hybrid made in Germany in the 30’s up until the factory was bombed. David is a virtuoso of the Jews harp and mouthbow which he combines with subtle live electronics.
