IANCU DUMITRESCU – WORKSHOP

IKLECTIK presents,

IANCU DUMITRESCU – WORKSHOP

Wednesday 29 January – doors 4.30pm – start 5pm |£20 | BUY TICKETS

15 participants max

Be prepared to investigate with Iancu Dumitrescu his unmistakable sound, how it came to form a hybridization of electro-acoustic, academic and underground idioms, using graphic scores, extended techniques and abstract improvisation.

During the workshop Dumitrescu will conduct the playing together as a comprehensive approach to his art of disguising sonic sources in a complete electroacoustic phenomenon. His own electronic music will inform the exchange with the participants, who are invited to join in an ensemble conducted by him for the concert following the workshop.

The participants are invited to bring their acoustic and electronic instruments, personal scores and computer works for quick presentations.

The focus of the workshop is collective and so only people playing on their laptop would be able to participate in the concert.

Iancu Dumitrescu’s ground-breaking career from the 70s happened in synchronicity with trends in forward-thinking music that received wider acclaim in the West than in his native  Romania behind the Iron Curtain, so a closer look at his efforts single him out when it comes to the origin and the destination of his aesthetics. While the evening is ultimately dedicated to discovering his unique vision on what kind of phenomenon a live concert is, this encounter is also an occasion to meet and discuss with a long time music journalist, founder of an electronic music studio in 1968, founder of an ensemble for new music in 1976, of a recording label in 1990, and an indefatigable organiser of new music concerts.
