London Jazz Festival – 13th November 8pm – £7/5

All-Four + Grimwald

Grimwald are a thoroughly rambunctious, unruly bunch who make an unholy din: :a rasping, seething, paint-stripping, rhythmic cacophony of saturated sound, with madcap rock riffs from that reel out of control, cascading in all directions, all the time disrupted by a barrage of abrasive electronics and unpredictable noise. All of this ebbs to far quieter moments, the storm abating into surprisingly tranquil pools of melody. Roberto Sassi on guitar, Steve Beresford on electronics, Noel Taylor on clarinet & Terry Day on drums.

With Martin Speake (Alto Sax), Liam Noble (Piano) and Mark Sanders (Drums), Grant has assembled a group at home in the here and now, playing freely improvised pieces as well as original compositions. Grant originally developed her free approach working with such downtown heavyweights as John Zorn, Elliott Sharp and Shelley Hirsch before relocating to London. Her many collaborators include Alex Ward, John Russell, Marcio Mattos, Ntshuks Bonga, Olie Brice, Alison Blunt, Hannah Marshall, Steve Noble and John Edwards. She sings with the Hauntological Orchestra and Ad Libitum Chamber Choir.
