The evening will showcase the weird and eerie from Norfolk and Suffolk’s thriving contemporary noise and experimental music scene as well as hosting legendary underground figures such as Robert Cox (Rimarimba/The Same) and Hugh Metcalfe (Klinker Club). The night will consist of presenting the best in the rural scenes from leading members from Norwich (Euphrasie Collective), Ipswich (Noise=Noise) and Bury St Edmunds (ExBURYmental). Visuals of experimental analogue degradation will be provided by artist filmmaker Jacob Watkinson.

Robert Cox (Rimarimba/The Same)

Underground cult musician Robert Cox has been on the fringes of DIY music making since the early 80s in Felixstowe, Suffolk. Born in 1953, near Woodbridge, Suffolk and still active and resident in Suffolk, UK. Runs Unlikely Records and probably mostly known for his Rimarimba project: “Rimarimba is the safety valve for the interest in music, electronics and guitars which I formed in my teenage years and have not managed to shake off yet, despite being old enough to know better.”

Hugh Metcalfe

Hugh Metcalfe is a musician and filmmaker from London and Suffolk, England. He is best known as the promoter of The Klinker in London, a club which he has run in various venues since at least 1982 (stories vary). He plays guitar, violin, hi-hat and gas mask. He performs in several bands including Bicycle Clip Sex, The Small Faeces, The Cross-Dressed Quartet and Fuck Off Batman. He also performed with noted sound poet Bob Cobbing, saxophonist Lol Coxhill and dancer Jennifer Pike in Birdyak, up until Cobbing’s death in 2002. Italian Books

Italian Books is a solo heavy electronics project from Suffolk UK active since 2017. The sound sits somewhere between contemporary power electronics, death industrial and harsh noise. The vocals have their roots in Hardcore Punk, where Jay (Italian Books) cut his teeth, and are delivered to the listener heavily processed with heartfelt conviction. Italian Books are at home playing music venues of all sizes from the back room of a pub to larger venues such as Electrowerkz, as well as house shows or art and rehearsal spaces. Italian Books latest release ‘We Developed Thumbs….. Are You Ready For The Thumbscrews?’ explores emerging cultural and political systems as humanity runs out of options as the climate crisis continues. It can be found at trenchartnoise.bandcamp.com which is the main outlet for Italian Books and related projects.

Vostok

Vostok is the moniker of trio Dylan Clarke, Miles Lukoszevieze & Graeme Smith, formed out of experimental rock band Red Mar. Within Vostok, they present a compelling and expressionistic blend of industrial harsh-noise and orchestral electro-acoustic movements, influenced by the long lineage of industrial artists and their contemporary peers. They are known for their fiercely emotive live shows which combine mellifluous moments of harmonium, guitar, feedback and synthesis with intense confrontational performance.
