A performance featuring the wonderful Nathalie Forget – one of the leading exponents of the ondes Martenot – an early electronic musical instrument invented in 1928 by Maurice Martenot – heard in the music of Olivier Messaien, Frank Zappa and Radiohead.

Biographies:
Nathalie Forget
Nathalie Forget was unanimously awarded the First Prize in ondes Martenot at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris (CNSMDP) where she studied under Valérie Hartmann-Claverie.
She also has Master’s degrees in musical philosophy, with a focus on Olivier Messiaen, and in visual arts (photography).
She has played all across Europe, as well as in the United States and Mexico, with leading conductors and ensembles including Hans Zender, Ilan Volkov Simone Young, Sylvain Cambreling, Heinz Holliger, Reinbert de Leeuw, Pierre Boulez, Myung-Whun Chung, the London Sinfonietta, the Orchestra of Gulbenkian Foundation, the Nederlandse Opera, the NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, the Rai National Symphony Orchestra, the OCBA of Mexico, the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden and Freiburg, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, and others.
Festival appearances include the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland, the Biennale of Bern, the Holland Festival, the Festival Messiaen au pays de La Meije, and several appearances at the BBC Proms in London.
She also combines ondes Martenot with contemporary art in performances and shows with sculptures, voices, photographs and projections; she questions the notions of Utopia, vibrant and revealing animalism, love, torture, and indifference.
She is ondes Martenot professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris.

Nick Roth
Nick Roth is a saxophonist, composer, producer and educator.
His work explores the liberation of improvisation from composition, the impact of nature on technology and a contemporary interpretation of musical rite and ritual.
A fascination with pattern, cycle and structure has led to ongoing conversations with mathematical biologists, forest canopy ecologists and astrophysicists seeking a conception of music as translative epistemology. He is currently an artist-in-residence in the European Space Agency (ESA).
Nick is artistic director of Yurodny, a founding member of the Water Project and a partner at Diatribe Records, Irelandís leading independent record label for new music.

Simon Roth
Simon Roth is a drummer and composer immersed in Contemporary, Jazz and World Music. He has toured the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada and Asia and played in prestigious venues and festivals across Europe, with highlights including Cheltenham Festival, Burghausen Jazz Festival, 12 Points!, Songlines Encounters Festival, Sao Paulo’s Kleztival, Ronnie Scott’s International Piano Trio festival and the BBC Proms.
Simon also plays drums for the Elliot Galvin Trio, Magnus Loom, Zosia Jagodzinska and Vula Viel. With these groups he has received the Burghausen European Young Artists’ Jazz Award 2014; Help Musicians UK’s Development Award and Peter Whittingham Award; Music Network’s Young Musicwide Award and the All Party Parliamentary Jazz Award (Best Newcomer 2014, Ensemble of the Year 2015). He studies with Paul Clarvis and recently received a Help Musicians UK Career Bursary to study with Barak Schmool and Pete Churchill.
