Baras: A unique screening of 1972-1982 film shorts, signatory 16mm reverie of the late Lithuanian fop auteur Arturas Barysas with recently commissioned filmscores by Contemporary Lithuanian Composers, ex tempore performances by Sound Artists Gintas K and Richard Crow plus Fine Artist / Broadcaster Simon Tysko’s ‘live’ playback of audio outtakes from 600hrs of his Resonance FM program ‘Isotopica’ punctuating the occasion.

This event was organised in partnership with the Lithuanian Culture Institute, Dovydas Bluvšteinas of Zona Records and Quinton Scott of Strut Records.

Gintas Kraptavicius is a Lithuanian sound artist / composer former core member of ‘Modus'(1994-98) the first industrial electronic group in Lithuania who continues as a solo performer and occasional initiator of fluxus-like ‘aktions’. He has previously collaborated with both cross-disciplinary artist Richard Crow and David Ellis

Robert Kundrotas is a writer and founder / editor of the uniquely influential Lithuanian 1990’s New Music magazine ‘Tango’ and continuing advocate of the work of Arturas Barysas and that of Vilnius-based avant-garde group IVTKYGYG formed by Arturas Barysas / Arturas Slipaivicius.

Simon Tyszko is a European conceptual artist and broadcaster working across a wide range of materials including sound-based work, photography and film who has regularly collaborated with David Ellis on various projects incorporating the work of Lithuanian film diarist / poet Jonas Mekas.

David Ellis

David Ellis is a London-based curator, writer, performer. His work in Eastern Central Europe spans over 30yrs since his first visit to Vilnius, Lithuania Director of ‘Puzzleclub’ in 1993. His work as “cultural Attaché WITHOUT portfolio, of nowhere in particular” has included the facilitating of Improvisation workshops with Juvenile Offenders in both Romania and Lithuania plus various projects with late film diarist /poet Jonas Mekas.
