The Sonic Agent presents two nights to conjure our listening abilities aiming to capture and reflect on our changing times, conceptual formations of the audible within music and to highlight the evolution of sounds and music coming from the SWANA.

Featuring ground-breaking artists from Palestine and Lebanon, the second evening will kick off with an intimate talk with the performing artists, lead by director of Beirut and Beyond International Music Festival Amani Semaan, to contemplate socio-historical soundings in music and the use of the archive and field recordings in contemporary aural practices.

The night will include a performance by Beirut based singer and musician Sandy Chamoun, better known for the co-found the Lebanese satirical music band The Great Departed (الراحل الكبير). Sandy will be presenting her solo project with her first album”Fata17”, conceptualized around field-recordings and sounds from the October 17 Revolution in Lebanon. Bringing together her sultry vocals, Sandy compiled audio clips from videos filmed during the protests, voices and music from the streets of Beirut during a pivotal moment of Lebanese history.

Jerusalem based musician and composer Maya Al Khaldi’s work explores voice and the music of the past and present, working with archival materials to imagine the future. She will be presenting her debut album “عالم تاني – Other World” which is inspired by Palestinian folklore, influenced by the present, to imagine a sonic future. All songs include either lyrics, melodies, or recordings from the audio archive of the traditional Palestinian music of the Popular Art Center in Ramallah, Palestine. She will be accompanied by the album producer Jerusalem-born Palestinian qanun player, audio engineer, producer and DJ.
