From Jerusalem, by William Blake (1804)

There is a grain of sand in Lambeth that Satan cannot find

Nor can his Watch-Fiends find it; ‘tis translucent and has many angles

But he who finds it will find Oothoon’s palace, for within,

Opening into Beulah, every angle is a lovely heaven.

A suggested walk to Blake-related places in and near North Lambeth:

1. You can see beautiful examples of William Blake’s work, including some from his time in Hercules Buildings, just across the river in the Prints and Drawings Room at Tate Britain, Millbank, SW1P 4RG, open 10.00-18.00 daily.  http://www.tate.org.uk/visit/tate-britain

2. There are mosaics representing works by William Blake inside the railway tunnels on Centaur St, Virgil St and at both ends of Carlisle Lane; the creation of these was overseen by South Bank Mosaics. http://www.southbankmosaics.com/gallery/visions-of-the-daughters-of-albion-2/

3.  William and Catherine Blake lived at 13 Hercules Buildings on the south side of what is now Hercules Rd from 1790 to 1800, a very productive period for Wm. Blake.

4. IKLECTIK Art Lab is on a site next to Archbishop’s Park that was a school by 1824 (when Blake lived here, Carlisle school already existed on a site very close to where the I’klectic is now), and more recently a Buddhist Centre.

If you should arrive at the I’klectik Art Lab before the concert is due to start, they make delicious light vegetarian food and stock a good range of restorative drinks.
