William and Catherine Blake lived in Hercules Road – a stone’s throw from IKLECTIK – between 1791 and 1800. November is Blake’s birthday month and to mark this the Lo-fi Ensemble will present an evening of music and visuals responding to Blake’s life and work conceived by Freland Green. The Lo-fi Improvised Music workshops were set up a year ago and players have worked with the ideas from John Stevens book Search and Reflect and are excited to perform this new piece which has developed from the workshop sessions. Some of Blake’s texts written while he lived close to IKLECTIK and his images will be used as a score to guide the ensemble performance.
Sue Lynch says: Threads of William Blake’s poetry and illustrations echo through my life from my Dad’s new hi-fi system in the 1970’s, playing ‘The Sick Rose’, with Peter Pears/Benjamin Britten. I hear Phil Minton singing Westbrook’s version of ‘Did Those Feet In Ancient Times’, as I cycle towards Iklectik, underneath the arches and sense a spiritual beauty of Blake’s images shining from the mosaics, created by Southbank Mosaics.
With dance performances by Kalina Petrova and Aleksandar Isailovic from the London Butoh Dance Company.
