It’s been a minute but XOLO is back at IKLECTIK on Friday 21st October 2022 featuring four wonderful audio/visual acts. The date being super close to Halloween, I have kept this one pretty witchy with artists who conjure majik, beauty and chaos from their electronics.

Alessandra Zerbinati

Alessandra Zerbinati, is an Italian performer and noise artist. Considered one of the most controversial and extreme figures on the Italian scene, her performances are one synthesis of theater, butoh dance, body marking and noise. The civil engagement jobs of her face themes such as abortion, domestic violence, self-harm, death and abandonment through a sound amplification system of the moving body and the use of bizarre instruments designed by her.

aurhya11

aurhya11 (aka Yewen Jin) is a multidisciplinary artist who creates sound pieces as an endeavor of place making. Often layered with otherworldly soundscapes and vocal samples, her sound can be best described as hypnotic witchery, often accompanied with organically disintegrated rhythms and intricate sound textures.

Pyramid of Dwarves

“we bake noise cakes”
So…in my own words… Pyramid of Dwarves is a form of barely controlled, delicious chaos whose momentum will make time a nonsense, the group consists of Ben Marshall, Luciana Haill, Nick Weekes & Paddy Farr.
These characters are so plural that normal sentences are useless! It suffices to say that I am bringing them in knowing that their spell will be cast, and October is a great time for spells. Sticks and electronics and instruments and other things will feature but none of that will be central to what occurs  X

Recsund (Clifford Sage)

Clifford Sage (Recsund) is a CGI moving image artist from somerset, England.  Often working with virtual world-building and digital animation, Sage explores audio interaction and non-linear storytelling through game engine mechanics. Since graduating in Visual Communications from the Royal College of Art in 2010, Sage was a co-founder of Werkflow.ltd games studio.  He has performed audiovisual sets at festivals including Rewire, L.E.V. and Atonal, collaborating with artists including Lee Gamble, Keiken and Lawrence Lek. Recently he worked on Resident Advisor’s Club Quarantäne Series as part of the Offworld.live. He has been making music under the recsund alias since 2001 and has released on Quantum Natives and Alien Jams.

The Outsert

The Outsert is the uttering of the Intrasert Sound, who presents live electronics and projections in a re-setting and rewilding of the beats, drifts and clicks which comprise the music of Lou Pennington and his work with synthesis, programming and laser building.

Monkey Rob vs OLO

Monkey Rob can commonly be found by his call, a series of seemingly infinite vocal utterings. His troop, known locally as The Infinite Monkeys draw their name from these utterings. Unusually, these apes practice what seem to be rituals across London as they continue to spread in a similar manner to the city’s influx of parakeets, though far more noisily, which is saying something!

OLO is simply an emoticon, a symbol for use in sonic ceremonies and possesses no physical form, rather it rides a host, and this act will be a ceremonial evocation, a seance during which we will attempt to commune with the aforementioned ape through sound and light.
